What can I tell you about last night? There's very little to tell.

I rode my bike home from work, after which there was only about half an hour until Shobhit needed to start his Project Management class. I would have asked him if he wanted to prepare him something for dinner as I was about to make mine, and I was out of ideas besides a veggie hot dog, but then I got a phone call from Gabriel. He wanted to talk about the podcast miniseries we'd both been listening to about the iconic movie critic duo Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert ("Siskel & Ebert"). I only realized recently that their status as a duo not only ended when Siskel died, but he died in 1999—which means someone who was born right after his death is now in their twenties and have lived their entire life with no direct exposure to "Siskel & Ebert" as an entity. Fuck, I'm old.

Anyway, I fell into Roger Ebert's blog in the late 2000s and early 2010s, and over a few short years, even though I had been aware of him for decades, became a bona fide fan. So, listening to the podcast overview of his and Siskel's history has been rather fascinating. The most recent episode had great information about what huge fans they had both been of Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing in 1989, regarding it as the year's best movie, and how they quite openly resented the Academy for shutting it out of the Oscars, for years to come. When it came to widespread perception of the Academy being wildly out of touch, which often feels like a very recent thing (in terms of being it widespread, anyway), those two critics were way ahead of the curve.

So, Gabriel and I chatted for a solid half an hour, finishing just in time for Shobhit's class to start. So, I just made myself a veggie hot dog and didn't bother making anything for Shobhit. I'm so sweet! In my defense, I had no idea what he'd want and he was way too busy for me to ask, and this choice was better than making him something he wasn't interested in. As I noted later, there are still leftovers in the fridge . . . which he'd already had for lunch. Whatever.

I then spent the rest of the evening basically dicking around. A lot of time scrolling through TikTok. I did catch up on the latest two episodes of UNHhhh with Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova on the World of Wonder website.

I came out into the living room only briefly, after Shobhit's class ended at 8:00. The first four episodes of season 7 of Grace and Frankie are out on Netflix, and Shobhit happily burned through them; I went ahead and sat through the first, moderately entertained by it. But, I had been up too late the night before, was really tired, and wanted to go to bed early, so after that I went to go get ready for bed.

I want to say I got a nice, solid 7 hours of sleep last night, having gotten into bed at 9:41, but for some reason I kept waking up too early this morning, not long after 4:00. What a pain in the ass. Whenever this happens it creates a sort of momentum of frustration, because often both Shobhit and Guru get stirred up by my own movement, so they both wind up moving a lot (including Shobhit getting up to pee after I do), which only makes it that much more difficult for me to get back to sleep. These are the pitfalls of sharing a bed with someone.

I guess it's still better than sleeping alone every night.
