My work day today has been unusually fine and laid back for my first day back after taking time off, and it's definitely because I took the extra day off yesterday. I spent a good seven or eight hours uploading, tagging and organizing the weekend trip's
photos on Flickr, and then writing up the requisite travelogue email, which I was finally ready to email out to my recipient list at about 5:30 pm. I fed the cats at that point, but took time even after that to convert it with the needed html commands to format it for the
blog post version, which I also posted last night. That post, as usual, is nearly identical as the email, the only notable difference being that I sprinkled in four embedded video clips in there, which I can't do in email (though at least one of the same video clips is linked to in the email).
I then had time in the evening to have the pasta sald dinner Shobhit made, and watch this week's episode of
Only Murders in the Building on Netflix. This means that my extra day off yesterday was a godsend, because I could spend the time I'd have otherwise spent at work on the write-up and photos of my travels; spend the rest of the evening without feeling exhausted or rushed from it; and then come back to work today feeling refreshed and able fully to focus on the work I have at hand. I even managed to sift through my entire backlog of email this morning, and will likely get through all the associated work from them this afternoon.
I will be very much sticking with this plan of an extra day off after returning from travels from now on. How big a difference it makes cannot be overstated.

Next up in noteworthy events in our lives is this guy from San Francisco named Eddie, who Shobhit found on Craigslist, looking for a room to rent for a week, starting last night. He did arrive, albeit significantly delayed; Shobhit stayed up until around 2 a.m. to let him in, after his Amtrak train was predictably delayed several hours—it was scheduled to arrive at Seatte's King Street Station at 8 p.m., but didn't pull in eventually until well after 1 a.m.
I was already in bed a few hours by that point, but I did wake up briefly, hearing them talking. I saw this morning that he brought us a small box of See's Candies, probably as consolation; he made it clear how badly he felt during our text exchanges as his train kept getting further delayed. After my own train delay when I returned from Portland during my Birth Week, we already knew to tell him to be prepared for delay on a train coming all the way from California. My train had only been two hours delayed, though, and I don't think any of us expected his to be so dramatic, at around five hours delayed.
Presumably I will finally meet him in person sometime tonight, but who knows. Part of his intentio for this visit was to go to the Capitol Hill Block Party this weekend, which was a big reason we contacted him to say our place is likely uniquely suited for his needs, as we are only blocks from where that event happens. He'll also be doing some work in work share spaces around town, though, and I'm finally seeing another movie tonight, with Tracy. I actually have plans every day between tonight and Sunday. My social calendar never sleeps!
