Big news today is: I
bought Madonna concert tickets!
I only even saw the announcement on Tuesday this week, which is kind of nuts: preorder sales, none of which did I qualify for, occurred the past couple of days. Tickets to the general public went on sale this morning at 10:00. I got three tickets, for Shobhit, Danielle, and myself, for the show at Climate Pledge Arena (The Arena Formerly Known as Key) right here in Seattle on Wednesday, July 19. How all this was kept under wraps until only this week is a mystery to me.
This is her first tour with a stop in Seattle since 2012, when Danielle and I saw her at Key Arena. At that time, she hadn't had a Seattle stop since her Who's That Girl Tour in 1987. Out of 12 tours in her career, this is only her fourth time with a stop in Seattle. (The 2015 tour had stops in Vancouver and Portland, skipping Seattle in between. So that wasn’t super hard to get to either; I wound up going to that with Danielle's friends Danielle and Andrea, Andrea coming in to replace Danielle who had been unable to make that show in the end because of her dad passing away.)
Every other tour I've seen her in, I've had to travel out of state to see her: Oakland in 2001 (traveling to San Francisco for that, also with Danielle); Las Vegas each year in 2004, 2006 and 2008. This will thus be the seventh time I have seen her in concert, the second time seeing her in Seattle.
On Tuesday, I texted both Shobhit and Danielle about it. I think Shobhit knew immediately that I would be going no matter what, and accepted it; what kind of surprised me was when he said he'd want to come too, even though he knew this will put a huge cramp in my budget. Danielle declared she also wanted to come, hence the three tickets I got today. They cost way too much for nosebleed seats ($143 each after fees) but whatever. This will be the third time I'm seeing Madonna with Danielle, and the third time I see her with Shobhit as well; the first time we all three see her together.

In other news, after it just didn't happen last month due to her life kind of crumbling around her but apparently she's recently started turning it around—a long and complicated story I have no business getting into here, and I don't have particularly intimate knowledge of it anyway—last night Kwanteria and I got back to our monthly Prime Video Watch Party movie watch.
It was rather fun, too: I had long had the 1963 Sidney Poitier movie
Lilies of the Field on my list, it's available on Prime already so neither of us had to rent it this time, and Kwanteria was open to watching it. When it ended she said in the chat, "This was a lovely movie," which is actually a kind of perfect way of putting it.
It was also nice to get back on track with our monthly movie schedule. There were a few weeks there when I honestly had no idea if I'd even hear from her again. I'm very glad I did, and yesterday she was as excited as usual to be having a movie night with me, which is always really nice. I'm glad things are looking up for her; she even apparently has a tentative job offer that sounds very exciting.
After the movie, I tried to remove a light fixture in front of our condo front door and wound up shattering part of it. Fun! So, I went ahead and vacuumed the smaller bits after sweeping, then vacuumed the whole condo. I texted Alexia asking if she wanted to come to our place for
our movie night tonight:
I just vacuumed and I don’t want my hard work to go to waste! I wrote.

And now, I just finished FaceTime lunch with Karen. I hadn't seen her since Shobhit and Shivi and I met up with her and Dave for dinner at Saffron Grill on Tuesday, January 3. We'd had a virtual lunch scheduled the following Friday, and even though she even emailed me in the morning to confirm, I totally spaced it. I tried to get on with her halfway through the hour but by then she was on a client call and had to be like, "See you next time!" Well, that next time was today.
Of course I had to tell her all about getting the Madonna tickets.
We also took the March 3 lunch off the calendar. I'll be in Australia then. Adelaide, specifically.
I guess she and Dave are traveling to Copenhagen and a few other places in that area this coming summer, so she told me a bit about that as well. We'll have a lot of international travel stories to tell each other this year. For now, though, I need to post this and get back to work.
