Wed, 15:29: Announcements like this at work anymore are truly a trip. We saw an all-company email sent by the CEO at 1:55. We had a department meeting convened at 2:00 to discuss it, for anyone that had questions or thoughts. I googled during the meeting to see if public news was already out—the Seattle Times posted an article at 2:01.
I had no idea this announcement was coming. So far as I can gather, no one who was not on the Leadership Team did. Given all the details, the decision to permanently close an operating neighborhood store for the first time in 23 years makes total sense. That doesn't make it any less of a bummer—I had been so excited about having a PCC store as an anchor tenant in Rainier Square Tower, Seattle's second-tallest building as of 2019.
