prepping night and day
I don't have any idea how out of it I might be when I get back from my colonoscopy tonight, and we're going to be watching the Emmy Awards (postponed from the fall due to the writers strike) anyway. I'm not certain I'll be able to update again until my lunch break tomorrow.
I am very hungry.
The thing is, I haven't felt as hungry as often as I might have expected, as it turns out, during the periods where I was drinking 8oz cups of the Golytely mix every fifteen minutes, the hunger sensation kind of went away.
I had to do this in two separate periods, the first lasting between 6:00 and 8:15 last night (during which time we had to frequently pause the premiere episode of True Detective: Night Country—the fourth True Detective season and only the first one I am watching, as I am compelled by both the arctic setting and the fact that it stars Jodie Foster). I started the second period of it at 9:00 this morning, and wasn't fully finished with the second 2 liters of that stuff until 11:30. It's 12:30 as I write this, and only within the last 15 minutes or so have I felt even tentatively safe walking away from the toilet. Getting away for even a minute is a relief, not so much because of all the time expelling the liquid as because sitting on that hard toilet seat for such an unnaturally long time is very hard on the ass.
I have a couple of pills to take in case of nausea, a possible side effect that I never got. I also have two chewable Gax-X type tablets I was supposed to take before the second bout of drinking this morning, which I forgot to do. I'm not having any gas issues anyway, so I'm not worrying about it. The closest thing to a side effect I've gotten is that, drinking all that liquid seems to give me the shivers. It happened last night and it's happening again now, to a lesser degree but still there.
I had thought I might read my overdue library book while I was spending all that time on the toilet, but I never read at all. Instead, I spent the time logging movies on Letterboxd. I've now logged everything I ever watched streaming on Netflix, as far back as 2007; and everything streamed on Prime Video, as far back as 2013. That is, any movie or comedy special—TV shows, a ton of which I have watched on streamers, do not get logged on Letterboxd. There's more to do, though I think my maniacal approach to the site is finally done. Neither Hulu nor HBO Max offer the same service with a full watch history to access, which is annoying but I guess I'll live. Otherwise, I have my Google Calendar to go through to spot things like Movie Nights and Double Features with friends that I watched via some other means. There's also a long history of movie watching to log, at some point, from my old handwritten journals dating back to 1987. Still, by far the bulk of my logged movies date back to 2002, the first year I kept a complete log of every movie I went to see in a theater.
Anyway. I debated whether or not to bother wearing makeup today, and put in my contact lenses. In the end I decided to do both, although I think I will take the contacts out and wear my glasses to the colonoscopy. I'm now set to leave in just a bit more than an hour, during which time I sure hope I will have expelled all there was to expel, and I can walk to Virginia Mason without liquid-shitting my pants.
