social butterfly to strike again

Not much to report today. I went to Steamworks last night, it was a total bust. I managed to get there before 6:00 which meant a slight discount, which basically means I was out $30 instead of $35. But then, in spite of it being actually busier than usual on a Thursday evening, I got no action whatsoever, and honestly spent far too much of the time feeling both bored and hungry.

I walked home and ate the last of my leftover rice and beans with veggie chicken, a bit of salsa, shredded cheese, and the last of some delicious sample taco bowl chips (exactly like when you get a taco salad in a taco bowl). I bought a rice packet from QFC at the beginning of the week for this meal idea, thinking it would be enough for two meals. Then my plate on Monday was so full I could not eat it all, so it stretched my dinner over four nights. So I guess the $4.99 I spent on that rice packet wasn't super ridiculous after all—it amounted to $1.25 per meal.

Still, this gets to the perils of living alone: it's too easy for things to go bad. I don't think the sliced bread I still have at home, left from before Shobhit went to India—it never would have lasted this long were Shobhit at home—has gone bad, but I need to check it tonight. I also need to stop at QFC on my bike ride home tonight to pick up a few things, including milk and cream for Jennifer and Matthew's visit. Shobhit texted me this morning that he added a coupon for blueberries on the QFC app, so that's why I'm just going to do the quick shop there instead of at Trader Joe's as originally planned.

So, yeah: Jennifer and Matthew arrive tonight. They're here until Sunday. I expect to do a lot of drinking, because that's just the thing I do with her. My own liquor inventory is moderately well stocked at best, but Jennifer will no doubt be bringing booze.

When they get here will depend on when Matthew gets off work. Jennifer ballparked 6:00, but it could very well be later than that. Regardless, I figured it was better to get the vacuuming done last night rather than waiting until tonight, and I did that at like 10:15. I finally washed the sheets on the guest room bed that were last slept on by Barbara two weekends ago, last weekend, so I think the condo is all set for their arrival. The last thing to do really is the quick stop at QFC.

The Big Plans are laid for tomorrow: Neko Cat Cafe, which Jennifer has never been to, at 1:00. And then we're all meeting with Laney for drinks (and probably eats) at The Fog Room at 5:00. I don't know what we'll do before they head home on Sunday, if anything.

Still, in my desire to ease any potential confusion with fares should we all wind up taking the bus or Light Rail, I actually stopped at Westlake Station on my bike ride home yesterday, and bought a second spare Orca Card, putting $10 on it. It costs an additional $3 to buy a new Orca Card, so that set me back $13. My other spare Orca Card, which I've had for years, has $8.25 on it. This way I can just give both of them an Orca Card to use, and each card has enough funds for at least three bus rides. I'm guessing they won't want to walk all the way downtown, but who knows; they might. I just know Laney's foot, while mostly recovered from her injury a few weeks ago, means she definitely needs to take the bus, so we will likely meet her there.

This is the last of three weekends in a row with pretty significant plans: first Barbara was here Wednesday-Monday March 27 - April 1; then I joined Gabriel, Garret, Andy and Brian on Lopez Island last weekend, April 5-7; now Jennifer and Matthew are coming from Union (outside Shelton) to visit me April 12-14. I had initially hoped maybe I could go spend the night with Mimi in Mount Vernon next weekend, but that appears not to be working out, and I kind of like not having huge plans four weekends in a row anyway. I do already have set plans for next weekend though: I'm seeing movies with Laney on both Saturday and Sunday, and then we have our Monday Happy Hour that following Monday. Shobhit returns from India the day after that, Tuesday April 23, just three days before my Birth Week officially begins.

I just had my latest Zoom lunch with Karen. I have no time to tell you about it! Which is fine, I just caught her up on the last two weekends with friends. She told me the travelogue about Lopez Island was "the sweetest thing you've sent," and she could tell they are all great guys, and agreed with my assesment that it was a good reflection on Gabriel's character.

But now I have a meeting at 1:00 so I have to post this.
