Bearing in mind the overall situation is still not good at all, today brings at least slightly good news: they finally got one command response out of her. She wiggled her toes. This alone is better than yesterday.
The ICU doctor told me they "held sedation temporarily," but she does much better off the sedation, and they will be doing another cat scan this morning. Her blood pressure is stable. She is on antibiotics due to a concern about pneumonia.
I was told she has an irregular heart beat and that was likely the cause of her stroke. They said they have a tendency to form clots to the heart which then go to the brain, and that was probably what caused the initial injury.
She added that it's "too early to prognosticate," because Mom needs a little more time. But, she does seem to be making small gains each day.
I have basically become the point person for the doctor to relay information, but we have chosen not to head over there at this point. It's a complicated decision complicated by COVID, although I want to assure everyone that—for now at least—Kootenai Health in Coeur d'Alene does not currently have any active COVID cases. Nevertheless, they are restricting visitations to one person per 24 hour period. One of my nieces is heading over to visit from Spokane today, and it sounds like maybe Bill will be taken there to see her tomorrow, and my brother (who is much closer) will see her the day after that.
For now we're taking it day by day. I have another call from the doctor scheduled for tomorrow morning, and I will share any further information as I get it.
Sun, 14:24: We happened to be passing through Olympia so we stopped by for a social-distanced visit with Dad & Sherri. We hadn’t seen them since Christmas. Then we stopped by the Shipwreck Cafe to see what the new owners have done with it. It looks great—they redid the ceilings to make it look more like the interior of a boat. https://t.co/1iHVYuHEwU
