Official highs in Seattle this week: Sunday 88°; Monday 93°; Tuesday 95°; Wednesday 94°; Thursday 87° (forecast).
Our lows the past four days: Monday 71°; Tuesday 69°; Wednesday 68°; Thursday 66°.
Our historical average high in August is 77°, the average low 56°. The key record we broke this week is three nights in a row with low temperature above 67°. We broke our all-time warmest low for any date during the "heat dome" event of June 2021, and that was 73°; on Monday we were only two degrees from matching that.
And all of this is to say—you knew this was coming—it's too fucking hot! And the nights have been the worst, sweating on top of useless sheets, an all-night fan making a negligible difference. We don't have AC. (I'd love to say it's because we are environmentally conscious, but it's just because we're cheap. But, for how many years longer??)
I'd say this is nuts but it's clearly just a new normal, the kind of shit we have to look forward to for the rest of our lives. Ugh. I'm tempted to say kill me now but even a world that's literally on fire needs beauty like mine in it! I make great sacrifices, you're welcome.
